This dancing/fighting couple are ex-residents of my garden pond; preserved, stained and mounted on microscope slides. I removed the microscope eyepiece lens and held a basic digital camera against the tube to take several photographs which were then combined on a PC. I liked the colour fringing caused by the poor quality optics.

For the curious: Daphnia is the lady in red, and Cyclops is green. However, both these crustaceans have only one eye, and both are female. In real life they’re less than 2mm long.
